Have you always dreamed of living on the water?  There are a lot of things to consider that you may not have thought of.  For instance, do you want to live on the intracoastal or a lake?  Is a gated community a must-have? Do you prefer a townhome, single family home, estate home or knock down so you can build your dream home? Waterfront communities in the Delray Beach area come in all shapes and sizes and each community offers a plethora of charm and amenities in their own unique way.  Here is a quick synopsis of the best waterfront communities in the Delray Beach area.   

Captains Walk

Tropic Isle is a luxurious community in Delray Beach that features custom built estates, single family homes, townhomes and condos.   Tropic Isle is located on deep water canals that have direct access to the Intracoastal Waterway.  Many residents in Tropic Isle enjoy waterfront lots with private docks and boat lifts.  There are no fixed bridges which makes access to the Boynton Beach Inlet to the north or the Boca Raton Inlet to the south easy peasy.  The community is conveniently located just east of Federal Highway and south of Linton Boulevard making fine dining, shopping, upscale grocers, entertainment, every day amenities and so much more easily accessible.

Tropic Isle consists of 430 single family homes.   In recent years, many of the “old world” Florida-style homes that were built in the 60s and 70s have been and continue to be torn down and replaced with modern custom-built mansions. Single family homes range from newly constructed luxury waterfront estates to older Florida-style homes.  Prices range from $850,000 to $12,950,000 for single family homes.  

The majority of the properties in Tropic Isle are waterfront homes but there are a number of condominium and townhome developments that are located off Florida Boulevard, Spanish Trail and Frederick Boulevard within the community.  New construction townhomes that are for sale range from $450,000 to $650,000.

The types of homes and wide range of prices has created a well-diversified neighborhood with residents from all around the world with varying interests. The neighborhood of Tropic Isle has had it's own unique character throughout the years and continues to evolve.  Unique architecture, tree-lined streets, beautifully landscaped yards, lavish outdoor living spaces, and shimmering views of the Intracoastal Waterway make this neighborhood very unique and highly desirable. It's hard to believe that there ever was an unobstructed view to the C-15 canal before this neighborhood began construction in the 60s.  

Pelican Harbor is the only gated waterfront community in Delray Beach. This Mediterranean inspired luxury community represents the very best of South Florida waterfront living.  Pelican Harbor has luxury club amenities, deep water dockage, lushly landscaped areas and a manned security gate.  Amenities include 2 community pools, a gym, lighted tennis courts, exercise rooms, a clubhouse that overlooks the marina, and a private yacht club.

Construction of Pelican Harbor community began in the 80s.  Within Pelican Harbor there are three neighborhoods: Pelican Harbor, Pelican Pointe, and Captains Walk.  You will find single family homes and townhomes within the communities.  You can expect to pay up to $469,000 for a townhome and up to $2,000,000 for an estate home in Pelican Harbor.  The homes in Pelican Harbor have great views because it is located on the C15 canal and the community has water on three sides.  Amazing views can be had from any location on the peninsula.  

Pelican Harbor is east of US-1 and only minutes to the beach and vibrant Atlantic Avenue.  Families also enjoy walking and riding bikes in their neighborhood along the winding streets.  Adults and children can enjoy the outdoors after the sun goes down and the temperature cools off because street lamps dot the safe neighborhood.  Some single family homes have private swimming pools, summer kitchens, and play areas for the children.    

Pelican Harbor has everything you would want in a luxury waterfront community whether you prefer a single family home or townhouse.  Pelican Harbor is a great choice for boat enthusiasts and families.

Lake Ida is a neighborhood with personality.  The neighborhood is an established 20+ block area north of Lake Ida Road and west of historic Swinton Avenue covering approximately 2 miles.  There are more than 1,200 single family homes in Lake Ida with some built as  early as 1955.  Because there are many older homes in the community, some buyers purchase the property just to tear down the house and build a new home. Most of the lots in Lake Ida are at least 1/4-acre in size and some estate homes have much larger properties allowing for an elaborate backyard oasis.  The Lake Ida neighborhood is very special because every home is unique and it's a very tight-knit neighborhood.  There is a strong community bond where the neighbors go out of their way to lend a helping hand or a give a friendly wave when passing by.  Small towns often have a sense of community and the Lake Ida area does just that for Delray Beach.  

You will find all sorts of home in the Lake Ida neighborhood.  There are small cottages, single family homes, and expansive estates overlooking Lake Ida making this area accessible for many.  Not having an HOA in Delray Beach is somewhat of a rarity, however, the Lake Ida neighborhood is one of the few.  Many people seek out a home in Lake Ida specifically because there is no HOA plus the streets in the neighborhood are lined with trees, the lots are oversize, and it's a clean and safe community.  Many homes are valued between $600,000 and $5,000,000.  

There are plenty of waterfront homes in South Florida but few emulate Old Florida grandeur of bygone days.  Lake Ida is a spectacular showcase of splendid homes that epitomize the historic charm, unique architectural detail, and character of Old Florida throughout the neighborhood.  This neighborhood is a true stand out community with every home reflecting it's own personality with its own unique style, scale and appearance.

Lake Ida is home to Lakeview Park, Lake Ida Dog Park, Lake Ida West and Lake Ida East.  Within Lake Ida West you will find The Delray Beach Playhouse located on the beautiful lake in Lake Ida East Park. At the various parks you will find boat ramps, playgrounds, walking and bike paths, and picnic areas adding to Lake Ida's charm and making it a great place to live.

Lake Eden is a family-friendly, gated community of single family luxury homes on the beautiful Lake Eden in Boynton Beach.  There are approximately 200 homes in the community of Lake Eden.  This neighborhood is attractive to families because of the extraordinary architecture and neighborly feel.  Homes in Lake Eden were built in the late 1990s and prices range from $600,000 to $5,000,000. 

Homes enjoy incredible views of the lake, canals and intracoastal waterway.  Many of the homes are directly on the navigable canal and are custom built giving the community a distinct feel compared to cookie cutter neighborhoods.  Lake Eden is adjacent to Lake Ida in Delray Beach.  The trendy downtown Delray Beach is only one mile by water.  Lake Eden is highly sought after for its fishing, jet skiing, and boating activities. Many of the homes are right on the lake and have private boat docks for easy access to boating, jet skis, wave runner riding, kayaking, fishing, and paddle boarding.  Residents enjoy a fantastic lake lifestyle yet are close to several pristine beaches. The tranquil and laid-back feel of Lake Eden is why many of its residents chose to call Lake Eden home.
