One year ago, the coronavirus lockdowns began in South Florida and we began spending more time at home. The pandemic has changed the way many of us live and do the things we enjoy. We are fortunate to be able to enjoy al fresco dining year-round here in South Florida, and restaurants have made changes to ensure that guests feel safe and comfortable.

Here are some of our favorite outdoor restaurants in Palm Beach County.

Best outdoor date night restaurants

The surroundings at Sundy House in Delray are extraordinary- there is nothing else in the area to match them. Outdoor dining means sitting in a botanical garden, with small gazebos housing two to six diners, set along a pond or bamboo glade. They offer an incredible brunch every Sunday from 10-5, and dinner from Monday-Saturday.

Oceano Kitchen is a casual neighborhood restaurant in Lantana that updates its menu daily with eclectic, comfort-style dishes. The vibe is very relaxing, the food is delicious, and the service is always friendly.

Nestled in Via Mizner on Worth Avenue, Renato’s is a great place for a romantic dinner. Enjoy classic Italian dishes in a beautiful courtyard, with live music on most nights.

A casual date night option is Bamboo Fire Cafe in Delray Beach. This family-owned restaurant just around the corner from Atlantic Ave. serves up the best homemade Caribbean food in town.

Our favorite spots for an outdoor lunch

On a sunny day we love sitting on the patio at Pizza al Fresco in Palm Beach. Tucked away just off Worth Avenue, it’s a casual but beautiful spot to enjoy a glass of wine and a pizza.

Max’s Grille in Mizner Park is a good spot to take a break from shopping, or to have a meal before a movie. Good food, strong drinks, and even better people watching.

Hurricane Alley in Boynton Beach is a laid back spot that serves up fresh seafood including local fish, peel-and-eat rock shrimp, and some of the best lobster mac n' cheese around.

If you want water views, our favorites include Dune Deck Café, Deck84, Prime Catch, ER Bradleys, Two George’s, Banana Boat, Sailfish Marina, and Beach Club Lake Worth.

Outdoor restaurants with great happy hours (at outdoor tables)

Cut 432 offers an amazing happy hour on weekdays from 5-7 p.m. Feast on discounted mini burgers, ceviche, oysters Rockefeller, truffle mac & cheese and more while sitting comfortably at one of their patio tables.

Lionfish offers happy hour deals on weekdays from 4-6 p.m, but you will need a reservation! Our faves include the mini lobster rolls, $1 oysters, and the Deckhand vodka/kiwi/mint cocktail.

Hawkers has an amazing courtyard that’s perfect for relaxing with a cocktail, yummy snacks, and great company (or a great book)! Their happy hour is weekdays from 3-6 p.m. and we recommend the Shrimp Summer Rolls, Chili Garlic Edamame, and Korean Twice Fried Wings.

There's nothing better than ending the workday on the patio at Salt7, located on one of Delray's best corners for people-watching. Salt has a great assortment of discounted martinis and snacks including sushi pizza, filet bites on pretzel bread, and duck fat fries. Salt7’s happy hour is weekdays from 3-7 p.m.

For a good happy hour option off the Ave., check out Wood & Fire. Enjoy half price drinks and discounted appetizers and pizzas from 3-7 every day.
