Town Square - Boynton Beach
The City of Boynton Beach owns 16.5 acres of prime downtown property that is currently undergoing redevelopment. The Town Square redevelopment plan will transform East Ocean Avenue into a walkable and vibrant arts and cultural district which is expected to reinvigorate the area. Construction began in September of 2018 and the project is well under way. The total cost of the project is expected to hit $250 million.
The scope of work for the Public sector of the Town Square project includes a new fire station, police headquarters, a four-story building to house the Library & City Hall, an ampitheater, playgrounds, public spaces, and parking garages. The historic Boynton Beach High School is under renovation and will be the cultural center which includes a 500-seat auditorium and restaurant space. The Boynton Beach Police headquarters is part of the Town Square redevelopment project but it will not be located in 16.5 acre parcel but instead will be located on High Ridge Road and Gateway Boulevard next to Fire Station 5. The scope of work for the Private sector includes a new hotel, mixed-use commercial/office/residential spaces, a downtown YMCA building, and parking garage.
Much of Town Square is expected to open by the end of June 2020. Exterior work on the new cultural center is nearing completion. The fire station will be finished by the end of March and the City Hall/Library building should open in June. Residential buildings and parking garages encountered delays and will have staggered completion dates in late 2020, 2021 and 2022.
